Kampus is the former site for Manchester Metropolitan University, located in the Manchester Piccadilly district, and is one of the largest Build to Rent development in central Manchester. Due to open in September 2019, Kampus is being completely redeveloped to provide 533 imaginatively designed one and two bedroom apartments ideally located overlooking Canal Street.
Manchester is experiencing an unprecedented level of residential construction, with almost 80% of units being built designated for the Build to Rent market. It’s because of this that our focus is on creating uniquely designed apartments with a premium service offering that makes Kampus stand out from other developments in the city.
We’ve collaborated with the investor, lead contractor Mount Anvil and the architect Chapman Taylor to create a spectacular city centre high-quality scheme. The master planning of this unique 4-acre site has skilfully retained two listed derelict warehouses that will be transformed into remarkable canal side loft apartments. It also includes the construction of two new residential buildings and the restoration of the former 1960’s University Tower.
The scheme has full planning consent and work commenced on site in Summer 2017. We will continue to be closely involved in the design process, the next stage of which is the FF&E strategy. We have helped create a brand for the development which is being played out currently in the hoarding strategy and early social media presence. All of this is underpinned by our in-depth research on the target demographic and competitor analysis.
We will operate the building on completion, including maintaining the estate, managing the service charge and all of the commercial tenants.
We are working with the design team to determine how the apartments sit within the context of the wider public realm and commercial uses of the scheme. This has included creating a new public square and creating passages through the scheme to integrate it within its surroundings. The entire ground floor space will be home to commercial tenants and we are working with the wider team to curate the optimum mix of retail, F&B and other ancillary services to support the residents living above. Ultimately we will establish Kampus as a new quarter for Manchester.
